Arnold Memorial's Math Olympiad team, comprised of outstanding 4th and 5th grade students, competed in their first-ever competition this Saturday at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Eleven students competed individually and as teams against over 250 students in grades 4-8 from across the southeast. Answering the same questions as 8th grade students, our students scored higher than more than 70% of the participants! We are extremely proud of them and look forward to following their success in the years to come.

Students Daniel Collins, Ella Ingram, Elena Burton, Autumn Hubbard, Gabriel Shoop, Mckenzie Morrow, Judah Morrison, Matthew Evans, Bella Wills, Stella Sherrill, and Sara McKay were accompanied by their coach, Adam Moss (Arnold's 5th grade math teacher), as well as a huge cheering section of their parents. They are hoping to initiate a local competition next school year and invite all of the Cleveland City Schools to join them!

Fairness!

This young man, chosen by his peers, was selected as student of the month for May because he is an excellent example of Fairness in our class. Some of the things they had to say about him are…

“…he is always making sure everybody is okay and has everything.”

“…he is always nice and fair.”

“…he puts others first.”

“…he always shares with people.”

“…he is always around to help me.”

This young man is always looking for ways to take care of his fellow classmates. He makes sure that every new student feels welcomed and is as kind-hearted and unselfish as possible. He does his best to make sure his classmates have what they need. I am fortunate to have been his teacher.

Fearless!

This young man was selected by his peers as student of the month for April because he is an excellent example of Courage in our class. Some of the things they had to say about him are…

“…he never gives up.”
“…he was brave enough to kill a cockroach…with his bare hands!”
“…when someone on the bus is getting bullied, he stands up for them.”
“…he’s brave and not afraid of anything!”
“…he’s not afraid to do anything.”
“…he’s not afraid to speak what is on his mind.”

He is fearless to the core, but not in a reckless kind of way. As his classmates wrote above, he has displayed this trait throughout the year and we’ve noticed!

To Tell The Truth...

This young man was chosen by his peers as an excellent example of HONESTY in our class. Some of the things they had to say about him are…

“…he is honest and does things right.”
“…he always tells the truth.”
“…he’s honest, no lies from him! He tells the truth!”
“…he always tells me the truth.”

As his teacher I am always impressed by this young man. He is new to our school this year, but he’s quickly become an integral part of our class. He is brutally honest but never with malice. We are so glad to have him as a part of Arnold!
